A Journey of Love, Dedication and Transformation
Reflection from Ms. Anastasia Simmonds—Teacher Consultant Group, Inc
Reflecting on my return to Liberia this year, I am deeply inspired by the resilience of its people and the transformative power of education. Representing the TCG Inc., in partnership with the AMK Foundation, I embarked on this mission as both an educator and a proud, passionate Liberian. Since 2009, TCG has been committed to rehabilitating Liberia’s education system. We’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges —
classrooms without books, broken chairs, bare walls, and students eager to learn but limited by their circumstances— yet, in the face of adversity, hope persists. Thanks to the unwavering support of our generous donors—listed earlier—we’ve been able to donate vital supplies, desks, chairs, and books to schools across Gbarpolu and Montserrado counties.
This year marked a major milestone: the shipment and distribution of our largest donation to date—two 40-ft containers filled with educational materials, reaching over 7,000 early childhood and primary students. This effort is about more than just supplies; it’s about building safe, welcoming, and well-equipped spaces where children can thrive and truly learn. One unforgettable moment that ignited this was meeting a young Gracious Momoh last May at the Jackson Foundation School. Her simple yet powerful question, “Wetin you will do for our school?”, became the heartbeat of our mission. Although she didn’t live to see the transformation, her words continue to fuel my determination to ensure that no child in Liberia studies in unsafe or inadequate conditions. Beyond classroom upgrades, we also hosted a two-day Early Childhood Education Development (ECD) Workshop for teachers at Bomi Community College in Bomi County. Conducted in collaboration with Mr. Eddie Walker and Dr. Chris Topka, the workshop focused on classroom management and foundational teaching strategies. I was a privilege to engage with educators who are shaping the future of Liberia. While we’ve made meaningful progress, much work remains.
As I’ve returned to the United States, my focus is on mobilizing more support, strengthening partnerships, expanding our impact—transforming more classrooms, equipping more teachers, and ensuring more children receive the tools they need to succeed.
To our donors, we say a heartfelt thank you—and in the Liberian way: “THANK YOU PLENTY YAH.” May the Good Lord continue to bless the work of your hands.
